My interest lies with
situations experienced within an environment, rather than views of a
landscape. The traditional landscape painting of a fixed
perspective, an image like a photographic representation, holds no
real interest for me. To me ‘landscape’ is something to be explored,
walked around, driven through, splashed in, peered over, balanced
on, smelt, seen, heard. The need for traditional representative
views soon become unnecessary as you realise that you can’t, for
example, see a horizon line when lying down on a cliff top, staring
at the sea hundreds of feet below. Likewise, how would you paint the
echoes made when shouting into a cave? |
