For some years I have
been pre-occupied with the granite quarries of Bodmin Moor as a
stimulus for my work, using them as a point of departure to
investigate the hidden geological structure revealed by the
excavation process. I do not intend they are viewed as landscape in
the conventional sense, but seek to exploit qualities of texture and
geometry as the building-blocks of the compositions.
More
recently, this motif has been enriched by exploration of the
volcanic Eifel region of Germany and it has been the trigger for a
re-appraisal and development of the theme. Though highly saturated
colour and the flat picture-plane is still a dominant
characteristic, some softening of my pallet is a consequence of this
amalgamation. |
