Margaret Eccleston B.A (Hons.)
Margaret grew up in Worcestershire. She graduated from Birmingham College of Art with a 1st class B.A. Hon. Degree in Printed Textiles. Margaret went on to achieve a Post Graduate Art teachers Diploma with distinction from Birmingham University.
For the early part of her career, Margaret taught art in a Girls Grammar School.
From 1988 – 1994 Margaret had her own studio near Dartmouth, Devon from where she ran and tutored regular workshops and holiday courses.
Margaret moved to St. Ives in 1994 where she worked extensively from the stimulating coastline and landscape. During this time, she exhibited with St. Ives Society of Artists, and also hung work in The New Craftsman, The Penhaven Gallery and The Printmakers Gallery. Margaret also enjoys the privilege of working with The St. Ives School of Painting alongside her contemporaries and passing on her enthusiasm to visiting students.
Margaret feels as much at home with large pastels or oil paintings as with smaller watercolours or pen and ink drawings. Exploring new subjects and media are the challenges that Margaret enjoys. Having moved to Modbury, Devon in 2005, the undulating landscape, open moors and trees will offer never-ending stimulation; however, Margaret will also continue to find inspiration from her love of hens, cockerels and farm animals!
As a printmaker Margaret produces colourful monoprints and collographs which contrast withsome of her more atmospheric work.
