I have lived and worked in St. Just, Cornwall since 1982, finding inspiration in the interplay between inner and outer landscapes, drawing upon dream, myth and personal symbolism as well as the coastal environment.
As a painter, I see myself as a story-teller, living in two interconnecting worlds, Cornwall and my imagination. My paintings depict my lifelong adventures in the landscape of the psyche, a magical place of mountains, valleys, deep forests, cliffs and secret hidden places, where things are not always what they seem and animals and humans communicate, working side by side and sometimes journeying together. I am always surprised by what emerges when I start to paint and I often allow randomly applied paint to dictate the subject matter. This way I meet up with new characters and am led to new places.
I am also a printmaker, specialising in screen-printing and wood-engravings. I have been a member of Penwith Printmakers for over 20 years, exhibiting with the group on a regular basis. In addition to the St. Ives Society, my work can currently be seen at The Gurnards Head Hotel, Zennor and at the studio I share with my partner, Tom Henderson Smith in St. Just - The Turn of the Tide
