I experiment with the sensual possibilities of paint by relaxing conscious control in order to liberate unconscious moves to discover a satisfying equivalent in paint to the wild, elemental beauty of the area of West Penwith where I have lived for the past five years. I explore the fluid movement of colour, piling up and breaking like a wave, the transparencies and opacities of paint playing off the surface and depths of water and air, and the forces of the rectangle restraining and challenging like ancient stones trees and towers braced against the wind.
